Recently, I went back to one of my favorite places for Korean food, Ju Shin Jung. Apparently, there is now another outlet at Katong. Cool!I always wanted to try the grilled BBQ (korean style) so decided to go with my gf, Xiang, for a feast. I guessed we over-estimated ourselves, as there was so much food that I was down with indigestion later on. Serve me right for gorging on good food. =p
For starters, I didn't expect so many appetizers (the small dishes that come before the main dish for Korean meals). There were a good 10 dishes, which was a lot for just the 2 of us. We'd ordered Yukechang (spicy beef soup with vermicelli) too, as well as two plates of meat. I like the meat... very juicy and well-marinated. Something like the kind of meat-marination that Uncle Johnny (Buffalo) would do, so the grilled BBQ gets the thumbs-up.
For more details, go to Xiang's blog here. (Sorry, I'm lazy to go into full details.)
Our Thai muay thai boxing lessons are progressing quite well. I particularly enjoyed the previous session as we were asked to pair up and fight each other. Dunno why but I always end up laughing during the class.... I'm probably seen as the "less serious" and "always laughing' girl in class! hehe... My instructor is really cool and funny. He would add his own sound effects to certain actions and whenever my guard is down, he would throw a gentle blow at me or something. I'd frown at him whenever he does that. hehe....
We came late that day so our instructor joked that we came in late purposely to miss skipping. It was so amusing.. strangely enough, everybody else decided to zhao class so there were only 2 ang moh guys and us, girls. He started training with me first and then, I was doing my own shadow-boxing when I heard him tell one of the ang moh guys to "Go practise with the first one." That's me! Yikes! So unfair to pair up a boy with a girl!!!
He came to me sheepishly, or rather, "bo pian"... so I quickly gave a disclaimer that "I'm slow and terrible" so he was pretty gentle and his moves were really slow so that I can avoid or block. Xiang wasn't so lucky and she got hit really hard on her ankle.. hehe... I had to train with another ang moh guy and he was huge! He reminds me of a grizzly bear, big and stocky, so it was really odd to train with him given my height. Anyway, he was really nice to me also. Ok, I know what you're thinking... that it defeats the purpose of training if everybody is nice and gentle ya da ya da... but hey, the pairing wasn't fair to begin with so I don't care.
We had an extensive 2 mins of continuous boxing (1 on 1 with the instructor) and it was so tiring! I was panting and felt like dying already by the end of 2 mins. He would alternate kicks with punches, and followed by two kicks on the left, then on the right, then punch and jab again... it was really tough! I had a great time during the lesson though. Very fun and a great work-out too. I like my boxing class. =)
Golf went ok today too. I was really exhausted from yesterday's session so was a little tired today... we practised using the woods (drivers) and that was fun. The driver is the long club with a big head. Looks intimidating actually but it's really light to hold. Mine was flying and if there was a lake infront of me, the ball would have flew over it easily. But all the while I was thinking, how come I wasn't able to play like this yesterday at the greens? Damn it, man. Quite frustrated. Think I'll go practise more next week. This is so exciting! hehe...
